The web part can be configured to pick a random entry from a predefined SharePoint List or RSS feed. The source SharePoint List of the web part comprises the columns Title, description, Image URL, Date and URL Link. This web part can be used with SharePoint 2013 & SharePoint 2010 all editions.

Specification

Please follow the instructions given below to configure the Tip Of The Day Web Part.

  1. Go to the page that displays the Tip Of The Day Web Part that you want to configure.
  2. On the Site Actions menu, click Edit Page.
  3. On the Tip of the Day Web Part menu, click Edit Web Part.
  4. Use the information in the following tables to configure the web part settings

Site URL:
Mention the Site URL which contains the Tip Of The Day Custom List.

  • If Site URL is empty, it takes the URL of the website on which the web part is present.
  • If you want to use the Site URL https://agiline.com/team/ , then specify the site URL as “/team/” without the domain name.
  • If you want to use the Site URL https://agiline.com/, then specify the site URL as “/” without the domain name.

List Name:
Specify the existing list name.

Example:TipOfTheDay

View Name:
Specify the existing View Name in the list (Case sensitive).

Example: All Items

Title Column Name:
Specify the column name from the title to be fetched.

Example: Title

Description Column Name:
Specify the column name from the description to be fetched.

Example: Description

Characters to show for Description:
Specify the number or characters to be shown for the description mentioned.

Example: 200

Image Column Name:
Specify the image column, in which field type is hyperlink,from the specified list name; And the image in the specified URL will be shown,.

Display Image:
Check this field if images need to be shown in front of the tips.
URL Column Name:
Specify the URL Field name of type URL from the specified list name. The URL field of list item will be the link for Read more and Title.

Example: URL Link

Title as Link:
Check if you want to make title field as a hyperlink to the data, which is specified in the URL field of each list item.

Default Picture URL:
If the Image Field is not specified or image field for the specific list item doesn’t exist then it will take the specified picture URL over here.

Show New Tip Everyday:
Check to show new tip, based on the date specified in RSS feed.

Date Column:
Specify the date column of type date from the specified list name. If you specify date column, then web part will show the tip related to today.

RSS Feed URL:
Specify the correct RSS feed URL to show Tips

Example: http://rss.cnn.com/rss/edition.rss

5. Use the information in the following tables to configure the web part presentation

Web Part Style:
Define the style to be applied for the complete WebPart.

Example: background-color:#fefad7; border:4px solid #000; padding-left:10px; color:#fff;

Title Style:
Define the style to be applied for the title of the WebPart.

Example: color:#000; padding:5px 0px;font-weight:bold;font-size:14px;margin:5px;

Description Style:
Define the style to be applied for the description of the WebPart.

Example: font-family:Arial, Verdana; font-size: 12px; color:#000; font-weight: normal;margin:0px 5px;

Image Height:
Specify the height of image to be displayed in px.

Example: 50

Image Width:
Specify the width of image to be displayed in px.

Example: 50
